Overcoming in a world of doom
Kids: "Just more of Dad's bugs."
(☉_☉)
The Chief has been growing from seed, raising and cultivating our food & medicine for more than 15 years.
He is the green thumb, not I.
He prefers to be recognized as a seed sower, and by the size of our family, this rings true, in more ways than one.
So this is why you can find our home literally filling up with ladybugs, fruit flies (to feed the ladybugs), worms (yup- we have a worm farm), praying mantises, green lacewing eggs, assassin & pirate bugs. Oh MY!
...Just when you think the mini fruiting chamber (mushroom cultivating) in your bedroom is getting a bit wild.
What do all the bugs have to do with growing food and medicine you may wonder.
Well we are only as healthy as the food we eat, no?
The food we eat is as healthy as the soil it feeds on and the environment it thrives in.
In other words, healing the land is part of healing ourselves.
This vision has grown more complete for us as the years progress. It's truly a beautiful thing!
However, the realm we live in is indeed out of balance, just as many of us.
Viruses and bacteria, mold and fungi, they are all a part of the whole and serve their purpose as well. SO let's stop hating on them, shall we?
From the dust we came and to the dust we shall return |
As many now know, the more we use synthetic concoctions on our land, plants, and inject them into ourselves and other animals, we eventually find an out of natural balance.
YET we are wonderfully made!!!
We, plants and animals alike, adapt to the environment to ensure survival and are innately programmed to heal one self.
Which means those plants we find have exactly what we need as they too have been growing and adapting to adjust for the changes.
This season we have an abundance of veronica persica growing outside all around us.
...The plants are speaking, are you listening?
This wild gem has lovely constituents, including but not limited to;
- blood purifier
- anti-inflammatory
- expectorant
- diaphoretic
But we cannot stop there.
All this talk about ways to boost immunity and forgive me, but the infamous COVD-19 pandemic takes a toll on our spirit as well!
Often times we are forgetting as being more of an unseen kinda thing...
The heart is a miraculous creation.
Physically, we cannot live without it, being the life flow manager and lung protector.
Spiritually, said by some, to be a place where our Spirit resides, our true self, which is eternally pure.
When our heart is renewed/enlightened, compassion and love manifest. Sense of responsibility and pure behavior toward one another takes place and with complete security and confidence.
Did you receive that? Go ahead, re-read it!
Worry and fear have been used in warfare since the beginning of time. This is why I and many others see protecting our Spirit as the first line of defense when it comes to health.
...And out of the heart the mouth speaks.
The second line of defense.
For a more detailed look into this, please consider, "who talked to the apple today, a family experiment".
Although I wholeheartedly believe the above mentions the best ways to overcome in this realm of doom, I feel I should address the more common & tangible, if you will, ways, or at least,
Nutrition is obvious.
- Vitamins A & C! These are your brightly colored fruits and vegetables. If you find yourself fighting something, the more C the better and stay hydrated!
- Vitamin E! This used to be a hard-ish one to get but now with CBD, you got it! Also the use of natural personal care products often include Vitamin E for preservation. (At least ours do!)
- Vitamin D! Get outside, 15 minutes will suffice. Foods such as salmon, tuna, mackerel, beef liver and egg yolks contain some but you will most likely need more. If you supplement look for K2 (MK-7) and D3 together and as always, absorption is best when you add a quality fat (or oil) with it.
Beta-Glucans – Beta-glucan is a carbohydrate (polysaccharide) that naturally occurs in the cell walls of yeasts such as medicinal mushrooms (maitake, shitake, reishi, cordyceps) and bacteria. Studies have shown that beta-glucan supports healthy immune function through its ability to stimulate white blood cells and natural killer (NK) cell activity.
Other sources beside medicinal mushrooms include, oatmeal, seaweed and algae.
(Pssst. we will have maitake, shitake, & reishi available this year for purchase in dried form and inoculated plugs for cultivation in logs and stumps.)
Curcumin from Turmeric – Curcumin derived from turmeric has been used for thousands of years in traditional Indian medicine (Ayurveda). Its a powerhouse due to its ability to combat both inflammation and oxidation, both causes of most illnesses. Extensive case studies from the past twenty-five years have shown that curcumin has therapeutic application against inflammation, infection (bacteria, including H. pylori, fungus/yeast, and viruses), lifestyle-related diseases, and neurological disorders. Thus it has also been reported to aid those with diabetes, allergies, arthritis, Alzheimer’s disease, & cancer.
Eat it, drink it, put it in your personal care products!
soothe & ease |
Oregano Oil Extract – An herb that combats bacteria, fungus, viruses, & parasites. When purchasing, look for high levels of carvacrol, a phenol with antioxidant powers. These have shown to be most effective, particularly against Candida albicans (yeast), staphylococcus, E. coli, salmonella, , the aspergillus mold, giardia, , and listeria.
PLEASE note, oregano oil will burn the skin, especially the more delicate areas. ... One may go thinking that they should put this directly onto an area with an infection of yeast or perhaps a staph boil, NO! you don't want to do that!
Probiotics - It is now commonly known that the human digestive system (stomach, small & large intestines) contains 70-80% of the body’s immune cells.
Hence the latest trend in health is the theory that a strong immune system begins with healthy digestion. However the flora of the digestive tract can be readily thrown off balance and this can be perfectly normal at times. But more and more are finding a permanent imbalance. This is occurring not only by the over use of antibiotics, but also by *stress* (this in turn produces cortisone). Other factors include prednisone (a drug form of cortisone), oral contraceptives and those with systemic candidiasis.
As with diet, probiotic needs should be personalized. In other words, finding what works best for you will most likely be a case of trial and error.
When selecting a product, look for one that ideally
(1) has 10 or more types of friendly bacteria strains
(2) is enteric coated or another technology that protects the flora from stomach acid. This allows the living strains to make it to the intestines
(3) contains a pre-biotic that feeds the ”good” bacteria (e.g., FOS, Inulin)
(4) has at least 15 billion microorganisms (although like previously stated some may need to build from a lower count if you are experiencing excessive gas, bloating and cramping)
(5) is dairy-free, especially if one is intolerant.
Thymus Glandular Extract (Bovine) – The health of the thymus gland largely determines the health of the immune system.
Many report 'activating' it simply by tapping it.
AKA 'Happiness point' |
Since the thymus gland is active only through puberty and actually begins to shrink as the years go on, by age 50, only 1/16 of the thymus gland remains.
Another interesting fact is that it turns to mostly fat by age 75.
The thymus gland’s production and release of the hormone thymosin stimulates the production of white blood cells (T lymphocytes, or T cells) which travel to the lymph nodes to fight infection. It also releases other hormones (thymopoeitin; serum thymic factor) that regulate many other immune functions.
It will however produce all the T cells needed by adolescence.
Studies have shown that thymus extract functions quite well as a thymus gland substitute notably against respiratory and similar infections, such as asthma, food allergies (with an elimination diet), and hay fever.
Herbs are most beneficial but this post is far too winded already. The topic of herbs is vast and more like a course study. Getting to know herbs, using them and experimenting with them (touching, smelling, growing) is best as they are also very personalized. The herbs that work best for you may or may not for another because each herb just like each one of us has one's own constituents.
I should probably also mention that if what you are doing isn't working and symptoms continue to progress, Keep seeking.
