FDA Approved Chemicals you can put on your Skin that increase Aging

FDA APPROVED INGREDIENT #1

Sulfates

Sulfate is a salt that forms when sulfuric acid reacts with another chemical. It's a broader term for other synthetic sulfate-based chemicals you may be concerned about, such as sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) and sodium laureth sulfate (SLES).

Introduced in the 1930’s, sulfates revolutionized the health and beauty industry.  Sulfates were powerful, inexpensive and easy to acquire. Best of all, they were responsible for the foaming lather we’ve come to associate with being clean.  The effectiveness lies within their ability to lift the grease and grime off of skin and hair, dissolve (emulsify) it and then rinse everything down the drain.

Sulfates are powerful, cheap and everywhere not just in lathering shampoos, body washes, face cleansers and toothpastes, but also in household cleaners, laundry detergents and dish soaps. In fact, because they are so effective, sulfates are also used in manufacturing and construction industries to clean and degrease heavy machinery.

So what?  What is the problem?

Well perhaps they wouldn't be so bad occasionally but seeming how they are in everything and most folks use approximately 6 personal care and cosmetic products per day (I even used a low ball figure here) and this figures to an average of 84 chemicals per day, over time it cannot be good. (1)

By stripping all the the protective oils from your scalp, hair, and skin, sulfates overshoot the mark.  They are too aggressive.

See there’s 1 billion organisms per square inch living on your skin (2) at any given moment.  This amazing realm of its' own is made up of different kinds of bacteria, fungi, mites, and viruses in which play a role in maintaining a healthy skin barrier.  And then you have the ebbs and flows of skin. ~~~~

Sulfates will
  • Strip away protective barrier
  • Leave skin vulnerable to damage
  • Exacerbate dryness
  • increase visibility of wrinkles and crows feet
 And then you have the arguably side effects of said sulfates;

...An endocrine disrupting chemical.   Which in turn will...
  • Cause weight gain, hair loss, hormonal imbalances
  • Create fertility issues/complications
  • Also increase dryness
  • Also increase wrinkles and crows feet

Sulfate-free? Look again.

Labeling is a tricky matter.  Even though some of these are only an atom or two away from being declared a sulfate, they are just as destructive.
  • Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS)
  • Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES)
  • Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetate
  • Sodium Lauroyl Isoethionate
  • Sodium Lauroyl Taurate
  • Sodium Cocoyl Isoethionate
  • Sodium Lauroyl Methyl Isoethionate
  • Sodium Lauroyl Sarcosinate
  • Disodium Laureth Sulfosuccinate

Great, so now what?!

Since your skin is the first line of defense when it comes to health, being the protective covering for all your other organs, shielding you from the outside world. And it is also a very effective passageway to your bloodstream, it should be apparent now that there is a lot more to think about than being squeaky clean.
Culturally, the skin defines beauty. Soft, supple and radiant skin reflects youth and vitality.
And likewise this organ is the best detoxifier we have.  So cleansing it after it has done an awesome job, is a good and wise practice.  But did you ever think of it as feeding your skin & body?  Just like we consume food for energy, what we put on our skin will end up IN our body.

When one takes care of their skin, it thanks you.  Your whole body functions smoothly and breathes when your skin doesn’t have to fight to perform its natural cleansing function. Our personal care products are formulated to work with your skin ~ not against it.

Tribal Mama's Artisan Products enrich your body, resonate with your soul and give you peace of mind. We aim to be Affordable, Disclose EVERY ingredient, and use ingredients created from above then formulated with love!

But this is not just a sales pitch. Because YOU can make your own. Or you can seek out an artisan, locally to support and not have to be bothered with making your own. Just ask questions about the integrity of their product.  Do they feel preservatives are needed?  What about fragrance and dyes?  Are you yourself okay with them?  After all it is your money.  And this is your most influential vote!

Bottom line, we are about getting the word out, uplifting one another and fueling change.
